Around: Watch & Act combined a screening of the documentary film Around with a hands on Challah baking class. The film showed Jewish bread baking as a way for Jewish people to stay connected to their identity, tradition, and community. The event gave participants a way to take part in the same tradition.

Design 86 organized the events with community partners in San Francisco, Berkeley, and Stanford. We developed the event identity, posters, flyers, and a simple recipe. We sourced the ingredients, equipment, and utensils needed for the classes.

The event followed a simple format. Participants mixed the dough, watched the film while the dough rose, then returned to braid the Challah. Everyone took two loaves home. One for themselves. The other to share with someone else.

The project turned a documentary into a participatory community event. It connected film, food, and the act of sharing.
